I don’t think the OP is really trying to change people’s minds with this confession. I just think he’s stating his headcanon as fact; lots of people do that on the STC blog, i.e. “this character always tops” or “this character always bottoms”. Neither is wrong or canon—same with this confession.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many negative comments about a STC confession recently; what’s with all the venom for this one? I think the last one I really remember was one about Asbel/Sophie.

Personally, as a multi-shipper, I don’t board the Yustelle ship all that much, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this particular ship. I don’t know the OP’s intentions, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say he submitted a type of confession that many other people submit to the blog: a headcanon stated as fact. We all know it’s not true in this one case because it’s never explictly stated by the game, studio, or other external media. It’s not like they had a kid or something. (And even then, irl, that doesn’t indicate love. It’s just that another game in the series had the hero and heroine fuck and have a kid, and given that they weren’t in positions to marry for political strategy, it was intended to be genuine romance by the games’ writers.)

I made a long-ass post earlier about how Namdai may have intended Yuri/Estelle or Yuri/Flynn to be the canon couple, but for reasons explained in said long-ass post, I don’t think Namdai stated the existence of a “canon couple” in Vesperia. Which is the beautiful thing about the social interaction and development of the characters in this particular game (okay, that’s my opinion). The hero and heroine don’t explicitly have obvious romantic feelings for each other. Maybe after the events of the game—it’s possible for friends to become romantically involved. But that’s speculation, and not canon.

I’m saying I agree with all these posts where they’re like “NO IT’S NOT CANON” because they’re right. That’s not the problem.

There’s nothing wrong with shipping this; just because you disagree with it doesn’t make it wrong to do so. Again, the OP probably wasn’t trying to win any debates with this one, and I don’t think he was saying Flynn/Yuri is wrong because it’s gay. By the way, there’s nothing wrong for preferring Flynn/Yuri because they’re a gay couple; while there’s hopefully other reasons for riding the ship, that is a perfectly fine reason. Just enjoying a couple because it’s girl/girl or girl/boy or other combinations that may exist doesn’t make the enjoyment wrong. But I’m wondering what makes people think that the confessor was thinking “Yuri/Estelle is better than other pairs because Yuri/Flynn is gay and gross and ewww”. The text and textual cues used indicates that you believe that the OP had those intentions—feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. But we lack the necessary data, textual or otherwise, to mark a statement such as that as fact.

Having preferences in shipping aren’t bad. Some go solely for crack pairs. Others stick to canon couples. Some only like homosexual pairs. Some fans look for threesomes everywhere (oops guilty). Some don’t give a fuck and ship any people that look at each other (oops again). Fans might do a mix of all that I just listed for different series/media.

Giving reasons for not boarding a ship, i.e. what Emmy and Bella did here, is great. They also recognize that the OP can have his opinion without having problems with his existence in the fandom. Additionally, fans of the pair acknowledge, yes, you guys are right, like what Kris and Yuki did here. Discussion and debate is great! ;)

But telling people to get the fuck out because you don’t agree with them? ._.

Given the typical types of confessions received on this blog, this particular confession probably wasn’t intented to provoke a combative response, or encourage homophobia. Like I said, maybe the OP had those intentions, but we can’t be sure without more evidence. So let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and not jump all over him when there are other confessions do something similar:

• Zelos and Sheena are the sexiest Tales pair ever.
• Kyle’s first crush was on his father.
• Flynn’s a good lover in bed…
• Genis and Mithos were sexual with one another…
• Emil is completely in love with Richter…Ratatosk loves Marta.
• …Rita is Estelle’s knight in shining armor.
• Lloyd…gets quite existed about ways to spice up his love life.
• Karol lost his virginity to Yuri and Judith…
• For all Mint’s elegance she wants to be TP’d…
• Judith is a virgin…

…unless you are going to get into the grills of those posts/OPs. Then have at it! Just… consistency, guys.

Maybe you see Yuri/Estelle as a crack pairing. Maybe you see it as impossible. Maybe it’s the word “canon” that pisses you off. But if we can ship things less commonly seen, or less popular—like for example: Tipo/Jude’s dick (yes, the order is correct, thank you pixiv), Mohs/Peony (glorious smut for it exists!!), or Jade/Raine (oops I’m guilty again)—then… I think the OP can have his little fantasy.

tl;dr: I doubt the OP was trying to encourage homophobia through this confession. He’s stating a confessed headcanon as fact. Other posts have done this, so what’s wrong with this particular confession doing the same? If you have a problem with OPs doing that, keep it consistent.

so idk since people misconstrued this whole thing I will just say that I do not give two shits if you ship yuri/estelle—I think you have bad taste in ships, obviously, but who doesn’t think that about people occasionally—but there is a difference between shipping something and saying that ship is canon and I have encountered far too many people who insist the latter about yuri/estelle just because they are the main guy and main girl and that’s just the RULES and no fuck you a huge part of what makes vesperia’s cast work is there is no clunky forced romance at the center and a guy and a girl with a close relationship are not automatically and necessarily bangin ok, heaven forbid a tales game have a cast dynamic with some complexity. lol I actually think interpreting their interaction as romantic makes them a whole lot LESS interesting but whatever

and tbh yeah a lot of those headcanons linked are pretty gross themselves, I just never said anything about them because a) I am not on tumblr 24/7 and miss when quite a few are posted and b) I was not in the right mood at the time, like
